Driven by a desire to improve environmental conditions exacerbated by climate change, this project seeks to engage community members and wetlands and permaculture experts to benefi the community in multiple ways.

Why is this project important?

Why: Behind residences on Bilbao, Charrua, Errandonea, and Diego Lamas is a portion of a Watershed that existed prior to urban development and which connected with water flows from Parque Solari and to wetlands between there and the Rio Salto. Development increased flood damages for multiple homes surrounding the site where invasive species grow unabated.The site presents opportunities to improve the quality of life for Barrio Solari and Salto residents in multiple ways through sustainability demonstration projects and programs.

How big is the project site?

Size of the Site: Multiple lots and extension to the hill of Parque Solari and Diego Lamas Arroyo, requires survey.

Who initiated the proposal and who is involved?

Pia Jensen and Danilo da Rosa developed the proposal and are consulting with the manager of the Salto, Uruguay city Environment Department, Pablo Alves Menoni. Consultation with wetlands experts and the federal government Environment Ministry are in progress.
